Columbine is the common name for the genus Aquilegia, a perennial belonging to the buttercup family. They can grow 2-3' tall, and as you can see are a very pretty flower.
I started with two, one pale pink and one purple. Now I have every shade in between because they cross polinate and produce many delightful surprises. They are easy to grow and re-seed beautifully.

This Iris was a pleasant surprise in my garden.
I am one of the gardners who buys bulbs and tubers, roots and seeds, plant them then forget about them. Eventually they grow and bloom, as did this gorgeous Iris.
Looks good enough to eat!
